The Trakehner Influence in Northrhine-Westfalia
Smaller Trakehner lines - Abschaum, Abendregen, Bernstein, Cyklon and Garamond

A few Trakehner stallions ended up in the state studs in Warendorf and Wickrath, and left some footprints that today, are mostly seen via their foundation daughters. This includes an A-line besides the Hannoverian. This line traces back to the Trakehner stallion Abschaum by Absinth. The Abschaum son, Aar-Arstein, left a number of influential daughters like Almfee, dam of the Pilot-son Bugatti Pedro, who won the team gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and Anuschka, mother of the 2002 WEG dressage champion Farbenfroh, who was a member of the gold medal team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and won team and individual gold at the 2002 WEG in Jerez/Spain. Farbenfroh, who was ridden by German Nadine Capellmann, sadly died in late 2005. Also by Aarstein was Franke Sloothaak's top show jumper Argonaut. |

Abendregen

|
It is almost impossible to state to which registry the state stallion Abendregen belonged, Westfalia or Rhineland. In both breeds, he produced exceptional daughters. Abendregen (by Altan) was a state stud stallion at Warendorf, but stationed in the Rhineland. Etienne, Christine Taureg's Olympic mount, should be a recognizable name to many. Branded Westfalian, he is by the Rhineland stallion Ehrentusch, who carries Abendregen's influence through his maternal grand sire Rheingold, and Etienne is out of an Aktuell-daughter, from the famous Hannoverian A-line via Abglanz/Trak. Ehrentusch in fact is one of Northrhine-Westfalia's most important sporthorse sires of thepast years, and only recently died. Stationed in Warendorf, this impressive bay stallion founded a dynasty of exceptional dressage horses and important sons, and his offspring usually also excel in show jumping. His Trakehner roots go beyond Rheingold and Abendregen. His second dam, the State Premium mare Prinzess, was by the Rhinelander Pasternak, a true foundation sire in that breed, and sired by the Trakehner Patron. More on that line on the following pages... |
A modern example of the influence of Ehrentusch and his Trakehner background is the rising Grand Prix stallion Roman Nature: by the Oldenburg Rohdiamant and out of a dam by Ehrentusch-Pasternak, this outstanding bay is in training with German Reitmeister Johann Hinnemann and has a bright future ahead.

Bernstein

|
With the bay Bernstein, a very valuable stallion stood at stud in Warendorf. The stallion was by Gunnar out of the elite mare Blitzlicht II by Pindar xx, a line that today is represented by Buddenbrock and the Grand Prix stallion EH Benz, for example. Bernstein's major influence came through his excellent daughters, and stallions that trace back these mares are Disco-Traum, Rimini, Rheingraf, Flores (who additionally carries Garamond, Patron and Abendstern in his pedigree), and the full brothers Lamoureux I and II. |
 |

The Hanoverian-based Trakehner Cyklon established a good jumper line, but left Celle and found a new home in Warendorf, where his progeny was not all well-received. Often called difficult, his offspring were more interesting to professional riders, and the stallion lost backup. However, there is no deying the fact that he was a superior sporthorse sire. His influence can be best seen in the many performance horses his grand son Damenstolz left for Westfalia. Dunhill H, Delphi or Diamantino are examples of this stallion line.

Garamond

|
A stallion of impeccable influence was Garamond by Gabriel-Pindar xx. Again is were his many outstanding daughters that made his name big. He is the foundation for such stallions as North American-based Bonheur (by Brentano II) or Tramino (who is by the half Trakehner Traumprinz and carries Garamond through his dam). Garamond's best and most noteworthy was without a doubt Gode, whose daughter Raute produced the Rhineland-branded, but Westfalen-stationed major sire Florestan I. Today, his popularity goes right in hand with names like Donnerhall, Rubinstein, Weltmeyer or Sandro Hit. Florestan offspring have won Grand Prix dressage. He sired over 100 approved sons, and produced such outstanding individuals as Fidermark or his much acclaimed son Fürst Piccolo (and again, more Trakehner blood on his dam sire). The breathtaking FEI Young Horse World Champion Florencio is also by Florestan, and more Trakehner blood comes through his Weltmeyer-dam. The doubling-up on Trakehner blood in combination with Florestan is popular and a great success story. Another excellent exmaple would be Fürstenreich, a bay stallion by Florestan whose dam is by the Trakehner major sire Matador. The list could be continued indefinitely... |
