Schiffon sold to the US

A top Trakehner dressage stallion arrived in North America this year! We are honored and proud to announce the recent sale of the Trakehner Schiffon to USDF Silver Medalist Lea Ann Hansen of Glamorgan Manor Dressage in Virginia. Lea Ann had contacted us some time ago looking for a stallion to compete, and while she is a successful Hanoverian breeder, her first big dressage show horse was Wilbur by the Trakehner Troubadour, so the breed was not too far away.

Here is a statement from Lea Ann that we would like to share with our readers:

My plans are to train with Schiffon's current trainer Olaf Müller and with George Theodorescu this summer in Germany and we plan to import this fall. I will be starting to show at 4th level and PSG next year. Successful scores will hopefully follow that will allow me to advance to the "r" judges program. If all goes well, my dream would be to ride Grand Prix. In late 2007 we will be welcoming Lani Kastelic and Patrick Tigelaars to the training staff at Glamorgan Manor Dressage. Lani and Patrick are also students of Mr. Theodorescu and we hope to offer a center of classical dressage training based upon his teaching. My husband, Mike Stanford and his practice Glamorgan Veterinary Services will be opening an equine reproduction facility in 2007 including standing stallions and foaling services. We will be assessing Schiffon's frozen semen quality with the potential of offering frozen semen during competition season and fresh semen as a back up for mares that need it. We feel strongly about providing mare owners with exception service. We will be standing Schiffon witht he ATA and since Trakehners are so important in the other warmblood breeds, we will pursue approval with other warmblood registries.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Trakehner, Lea Ann!!

Mare family of O170A1 Sternblume (origin is O170A Schwindlerin)

The foundation mare is the famous Schwindlerin by Alibaba, who was born in 1940 and established a sport horse dynasty in Europe. She was one of the few mares who were used by her owners (the Elxnat family) to carry their belongings to the West on the infamous “trek” from East Prussia during the winter of 1944/45. Her daughter Sternblume (by Polarstern) produced Schwarzgold by Herbststurm, the 3rd dam of Schiffon (see above pedigree). This direct Schindlerin-line has produced the following approved stallions: Saturn by Geysir (Champion stallion of the approvals in Neumünster), Salut by Geysir (state stud stallion in Westfalia), Sturmwind by Impuls, Sternglanz by Herbststurm (very good jumper producer), Schachzug by Bergsturm, Sieg by Unkenruf (ATA), Savant by Unkenruf (ATA), EH Sixtus by Habicht o(ne of the leading Trakehner sires of our time, with 14 approved sons (e.g. Buddenbrock, Lafayette, Fandango, Sabary) and sport horse producer par excellence with offspring competing at international levels in dressage, show jumping and eventing), Schneekönig by Deadly Nightshade xx (eventer in Germany, now standing at stud in the US), Sturmklang by EH Maizauber, most recently approved stallion from this line (in Wickrath 2006, as a 3 year old), Starway by Star Regent xx, CCI** eventer in Germany, established a small, but very successful stallion line via Exclusiv-Kapriolan F (the latter is a Grand Prix dressage stallion). Seeadler is also dam sire to the elite mare Agatha Christi (dam of the dressage stallion Alter Fritz), the approved Eloquent (1.30m show jumper), the approved Königsmark and second dam sire to the newly approved Canzler (NMS 2005), Schwertträger by Hilarius, successful advanced level show jumper and sire of exceptional performance horses; e.g. Schalk (CCI*** eventer), and Soulman by EH Caprimond, FEI dressage stallion in France.

Dam sire Mago xx

This direct Schindlerin-line has produced the following noteworthy mares and performance horses:

  • Serenade by Mahagoni, dam of several elite auction horses in Neumünster and Medingen
  • Staven by Masur, who was exported to the US and has started a very interesting branch of this family with offspring by Luneur (by Flaneur) followed by generations of foals by Schwalbenzug, Amethyst, Tzigane, and Windfall.
  • Gelha’s Seacookie by Helikon xx, the 2004 Bundeschampion eventer, and now successful international youngster with Ingrid Klimke
  • Skungirren by Incitatus, Trakehner Verband elite mare and dam of the top producer Auxienne S (by Schwertträger, who is from the same dam line, see above). Auxienne S is dam of the approved Spirding by Katamaran xx (CCI* eventer), Stubbendorf by Argonaut and the Oldenburg approved Trakehner Shamane by Luzifer (Gestüt Vorwerk). Skungirren is one of the highest scoring mares every entered into the German stud book, she scored 9,9,9/9,9 at her inspection
  • Saalau II by Katamaran xx; Verband premium mare and CCI eventer in Germany

Schiffon’s sire is the exceptional dressage producer EH Anduc, who comes from a dynasty of amazing dressage stallions. His sons EH Angard and Le Duc are most prominent and have a performance history at Grand Prix. EH Marduc also sired such individuals as EH Herzzauber, Induc or the impeccable EH Lehndorffs, among many others. And in third generation, Halali is also sire of the EH Hyllos, sire of Solero TSF.

Anduc sired the approved sons Anduccino (dam by Chinatown xx), Champion stallion in Hessia; EH Angard (dam by Gunnar); sired sons already (e.g. Isgard, Inter I in France; Oberon, Herzfunke, Almaz/Hessia. He is also dam sire of the top producer Axis, whose first son Hirtentanz was approved with a premium and as the best jumper in Neumünster 2005 and recently sold to the US); Hailo *Pg* (dam by Thor; ATA approved; Grand Prix dressage, sire of approved stallions like Impressionist and Monte); Höhenflug (dam by Mahagoni); Le Duc (dam by Pregel); Inter I, now stationed in Great Britain; Scharahnanduc (dam by Tarino); Solonel (dam by Gelria); 100 day test winner with over 150 points total! On the dam side, EH Anduc sired the following stallion-producers: Baron Verdi (by EH Monteverdi TSF, approved with the ATA in 2004, now competing in the FEI 5 year old devisions in the US); Balisto Z (by Suchard), one of only two Trakehners approved in the Zangersheide Stud Book for Show Jumpers in Belgium; premium stallion in Neumünster and international Grand Prix show jumper; Budweiser Classic (by Suchard), S-level show jumper, now stationed in Great Britain; Donovan (Oldenburg premium stallion by Diamond Hit out of a Trakehner mare by EH Consul-EH Anduc); Bundeschampion 4 year old riding horses in 2005; Pyatt Charly (by EH Charly Chaplin); sire of the most recent approved ATA stallion Copernicus.

The dam of Schiffon, Surprise, was bred in Denmark and carries very good performance blood. She was the National Champion mare in Denmark in 1989, and produced several daughters for the Trakehner and Danish warmblood studbooks. Her sire Mago xx was used all over Scandinavia with approved sons in 5 registries and was a successful dressage horse at Grand Prix levels. His dressage career started in 1986. He became a B-Team horse in 1986, and at the Danish National competition in Kolding 1990 he received A-horse status. In 1991 he attended the Danish National Championships and ranked third. After that, Mago xx was chosen to represent Denmark at the European Championship in Donaueschingen. In 1992 he ranked fourth at the Nationals and was selected to represent Denmark at the World Championships in Den Haag in 1994.

Schiffon was only used lightly in the German Trakehner breed, and latetly his show record was more important than the breeding business. From limited breedings, he sent two stallion candidates to Neumünster and Wickrath, has the 4th level gelding Alstertraum competing, and sired very versatile horses like the Wickrath 2006 Elite Riding horse Ivenhoe, who has won young horse classes in dressage, show jumping and eventing, or the black gelding Herbstfalke. Schiffon is also sire of several Trakehner Verband premium mares like Wintermärchen, Herzflamme or most recently, the Reserve Champion mare at the central mare inspection in Holstein 2006, Inverness.

And in the fall of 2006, Schiffon's first son was approved in Germany: Herzglanz. This very supple grey stallion was one of the top five jumpers in Neumünster this year, where we saw more high quality jumpers than in any other year. Herzglanz, who is still very imature and has a lot of growing to do, is a very elastic mover with modern front arm mechanics and an impeccable Trakehner type. What a son to leave for Germany!
