The Neumünster Story

Why Neumünster?

The Auctions in Neumünster are the yearly highlight for the Trakehner breed - apart from sport events like the Bundeschampionat or the international Championships in which our horses are represented. As a bered event, "NMS" as it is simply called, is unsurpassed. It also has tremendous economic importance for the Trakehner Verband. It essentially lives off this one big event, and it better goes well! A big disadvantage the Verband has compared to most other German registries is the lack of its own event hall. Verden has the Niedersachsenhalle, Vechta has its own big equestrian center for all things concerning the Oldenburg breed, the South German registries meet at the Olympic part in Munich every year - yet the Trakehner Verband has to spend a substantial amount of money each year on "renting" onf of the biggest event halls in Northern Germany. So "NMS" has many meansing apart from just the pure excitement for horse lovers from arond the globe - it is a vital establishment of the Trakehner Verband and it does throughout a year.

That is the major reason why in contrast to the other big fall approvals in Germany, you will find riding horses, mares and foals for sale as well. This is the one and only big auction the Verband has - and some really incredible success stories have had their beginning with Uwe Heckmann's delicate little rose wood hammer. You may ask yourself why you should buy an expensive breeding stallion - this is a stallion auction after all. Well, consider this: the crop of pre-selected and pre-screend stallion prospects that appears in NMS is the top of one year's foals. The colts that make an appearance here have been raised very well, have been trained pretty well too, and are simply the best one entire foal crop has to offer - at least at that moment in time. out of approximately 600-700 Trakehner colts born in Germany each year, roughly 60 - 65 get selected for NMS. Add to that the few that come from surrounding European countries, and you're looking at a very elite group of horses. Let's say 15 of them end up as approved stallions - the rest inevitabely becomes "gelding material" right away. But at a very high quality level! And it is indeed no secret anymore - there is no better spot to shop for your next top competition horse. The prices are very fair, especially considering the amount of care and work that has already gone into these 2-3yr old youngsters. The list of former NMS stallion candidates turned into international sport horses is long and impressive. Over time, we will highlight a few of these stories here for you to see what we're talking about. For now, just take our word for it - there is no better place than NMS.

And add to that the fact that you can buy at the best broodmare auction in Germany (other registries will agree with this) and get your hands on outstanding foals at very moderate prices (mostly), you really can't find a more exciting place to be in October. All in all, some 100 Trakehner horses for sale will be parading in front of you for 4 days - pre-vetted (come talk to the vets!) and pre-screened (the Verband selection commission spends 2 weeks on the road traveling around the country in August of each year).
