The Trakehner in Dressage

Merlin TSF by Arrak. Merlin, ridden by Austrian Caroline Hatapla, was successful at many international Grand Prix dressage competitions, including the European Championships in 1995 and the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He was a very consistent performer and in a heartbraking ceremony, was retired from his active career at the Neumünster Gala Show a couple of years ago. He retired at his rider's home in North Germany.

Hannabal by Pregelstrand out of Hella VII by Erzsand. The chestnut gelding Hannabal and his owner and rider Leslie Webb were the ATA's most promising and successful pair in dressage in the late 90s. Hannabal won the USDF Grand Prix Freestyle Reserve Champion title (all breeds) as well as the Palmeblüte and trakehner Verband Awards and in 1998, placed 4th in the USDF HOY at Grand Prix level. An injury ended his career untimely, as hopes were high that he would continue the tradition of Trakehner Olympic dressage horses.

EH Münchhausen TSF by EH Hohenstein out of Mohnblüte by Königstein. Münchhausen was the champion of his approval in 1997. As a three year old, he was the National Trakehner Riding Horse Champion and qualified for the Nationals this same year, where he stood third in a group of prestigious Hannovarian and Oldenburg riding horses. Münchhausen is owned by the stud farm Wiesenhof and is ridden by Danish Grand Prix rider Fie Christine Skarsoe. Together, they represented Denmark at the 2001 FEI World Championships for young dressage horses in Verden, where they took the reserve championship in the 6year old division. Münchhausen, only 9 years old, has moved on to win Intermediaire I and Prix St. George at international level. In 2005, he was a member of the Danish Team at the European Dressage Championships in Hagen/Germany.

Martini *Pg* by Coktail out of Maranja by Tannenberg. The bay ATA stallion Martini was imported in utero by Roy and Jean Brinkman of Valhalla Farms in FL and was the center piece of that breeding operation for his entire career. He won several Inter II Year End awards, won the prestigious Palmenblüte Award of the ATA and was the USDF leading dressage sire for many years, more than any other stallion.

EH Gribaldi by Kostolany out of Gondola II by Ibikus. The 1995 champion stallion at NMS was sold to Holland at the auction and went on to become the most popular warmblood sire in the Dutch breed today. With an average of 400 mares a year, Gribaldi is the leading warmblood stallion in the world. In competition, the black stallion has made a name for himself at international Grand Prix levels at World Cups and other major shows. The number of his approved sons is high, but two clearly stand out: the international competitor Paointed Black (Anky van Grunsven), and the Inter II stallion Hofrat, whose son Hotline was the Hanoverian approval champion in 2005 and sold for a record high of 800.000 Euro!s

EH Monteverdi TSF by EH Partout out of ES Miami by Matador. The 1998 champion stallion Monteverdi is a stable mate of Münchhausen and equally successful. Monteverdi won 7 out ot 10 FEI shows entered in 2003 and was the main contributor to Fie Skarsoe's Golden FN medal for her wins at advanced level. Monteverdi had to undergo colic surgery in the fall of 2003 and is now back in the ring. In 2005, Monteverdi won his first international Grand Prixs and continued his 2006 season with a high placing at the very prestigious Rolinck Cup in Münster. Monteverdi's oldest offspring are already winning at 3rd level in Germany, and his US approved son Baron Verdi is a constant top scorer at dressage shows in Florida and the MidWest under owner Cheryl Holekamp and Darren Chiacchia.

EH Ravel by Mahagoni out of Rauhe by Donauwind. The elite stallion Ravel was a life long member of the Poll family in Hörem. Katrin Poll trained this magnificent bay and successfully showed him through Grand Prix dressage. Equally successful in breeding, many of Ravel's get are winning at all levels and interestingly, also in open jumper end eventing competitions. His dam also produced the Grand prix and major sire EH Rockefeller (by EH Consul).
