The Trakehner in Eventing

|
Nurmi by Merkur out of Najade by Amtmann, born 1925, winner of the individual and team gold medal at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin with Captain Stubbendorf, Germany. The gelding has become the symbol of Trakehner success in eventing. And he is also one of many examples of horses from this particular breed that excel at the highest levels in eventing without being full TBs, in some cases actually not even close. The Trakehner's background is so different to all other wamrblood breeds that endurance, speed, stamina, and soundness always were at the very core of the breeding program this horse was selected for. Its history as the world's greatest war mount just adds to that fact.

Habicht by Burnus AAH out of Hallo by Goldregen. The story of Habicht is unique in many ways and can be read elsewhere on this webpage. Only this: he won the 1977 CCI*** Achselschwang with his rider Martin Plewa and was the best German horse at the CCI**** Burghley. Habicht produced international eventers (Windfall, Foray), dressage horses (grandsons Peron TSF, Martini, and the World Cup mare Renaissance Fleur TSF ) and showjumpers (Livius, Sixtus) and his stallion line is the most prepotent sport horse line in the modern Trakehner breed.

Windfall *Pg* approved premium stallion by Habicht out of ES Wundermädel xx by Madruzzo xx. Windfall won the National Championships of Young event horses with Ingrid Klimke in 1998, was Germany's horse of the year in 1999, Trakehner horse of the year in 1998, member of the long list for the 2000 Sydney Olymics (only 8 years old!), winner of every CIC** and CIC*** held in Germany in 1998. He was sold to Timothy Holekamp of Missouri in 2000 and continued on with his new rider, USET member Darren Chiacchia. He won CIC**, placed at CIC***, won the selection trial for the US Burghley Team in 2001, returned with a 3rd place from the Advanced American National Championships in eventing in 2002 and in the fall of that year, finished the important Fair Hill CCI*** at 5th place. Windfall placed 2nd at the Fox Hall Cup in 2003 and crowned his amazing career so far with the individual Gold medal at the 2003 Panamerican Games. In 2004, Windfall returned from the Athens Olympics with a Team bronze medal. His offspring in Europe are already starting at CIC*** level, leaving the conclusion that the Habicht line is indeed prepotent!
