The sire
Starway was at the beginning of an outstanding eventing career with Ingrid Klimke (placed at the Bundeschampion, winner of the Robert-Vietor Eventing Cup for young horses in Germany), when a training accident left him retired to stud duties. He sired excellent sporthorses with all around talents, and the performance test winner Pepper & Salt, one of the most convincing jumpers the breed has seen in recent years. Starway is also the sire of Gestüt Hämelschenburg's Exclusiv, who produced the Grand Prix dressage stallion Kapriolan F and the mare Schwalbenspiel, dam of the 2006 NMS champion Songline. Starway's big mare family traces back to Schwindlerin, a line that split up into several branches, including those of the stallions Symbol, Stubbendorf, Saturn, Schiffon and the champion Seeadler.
The dam
Dam sire Heling is by the CCI eventer Bukephalos, who had a great career in North America. Heling today stands at stud in Canada as well. He was known in Germany as a sire of good sized, correct brood mares with a high breeding index for walk. Second dam sire Schwedengruss was an excellent show jumper and comes from a TB line through Kunzit and Welsh Minstrel xx, who is also the third dam sire of the accomplished sport horse stallion Sir Chamberlain. Dam line of the approved Nemo by Ginster, who had a career under saddle and in breeding in North America at Meadowview Farm.
